Get the Lead Out Oahu 2010

Aloha Divers!!! We're having a competition this year to see who can collect the most lead fishing weights off of the reefs of Oahu. The winners will receive great prizes and everyone who participates will be rewarded, but the biggest winner will be Oahu's near-shore environments. Lead is toxic to all life and harms our reefs and marine life. Our goal for the year is to collect 2010 pounds of lead weight. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1^st Place – Zeagle Flat Head LT regulator and a Rescue or Master Scuba Diver Class.

2^nd Place– Xcel Thermoflex Bamboo Full Wetsuit

3^rd Place – Apollo Bio Fins w/Spring Straps

4^th Place - Intova L-700 LED Torch

Who Qualifies?

To qualify for any prizes, each participant must bring in a minimum of 20lbs of lead fishing weights from the reefs. Weights must be turned in during the contest which begins January 16, 2010 and ends at midnight December 31, 2010 or when we reach our goal of 2010 lbs, whichever comes first.

Additional Prizes

All qualifying participants receive an Underwater Ecology Specialty Certification
If we reach half of our goal (1005 lbs), we'll make commemorative T-Shirts for all participants
If we reach our goal there will be a huge party in celebration of our efforts!

How to participate

Dive as much as you can. Club dives are a great opportunity to get in on free tanks. Then collect all the lead fishing weight you can find. Bring it into the store so we can weigh it and add it to the collection. We'll be keeping a running total for each participant and our website and store displays will be updated frequently to show our progress.

Also, come by the shop and ask us for tips on where to find lead fishing weights and how to collect it.
